BAUHAUS Collection
"I come from a family of art collectors, with a fine taste for modern art, and grew up surrounded by modern paintings and Cesca armchairs by Marcel Breuer. As a child growing up in New York, I stumbled into a beautiful album about the Bauhaus, and I was surprised to find that some of the geniuses behind the most influential art school and design movement of the 20th century were Hungarian. They became my role models and icons, and throughout the years the Bauhaus became my obsession. I look up to modernist artists like Moholy-Nagy, Kassák, Breuer, Molnár, and Bortnyik, and strive to follow in their footsteps. Some worked in the Bauhaus, like Moholy-Nagy and Molnár, others studied there, like Breuer, still, others were inspired by it like Bortnyik. And yeah, there is Kassák. Google him! When designing our products, I always put myself into their shoes: "What would Breuer do?". The Bauhaus was about form and function, and I try to stay true to that. The tricolor MATRA MINI was born as my homage to these artists and has become our most iconic backpack over the years. With our new collection, I wanted to extend this treatment to the rest of our products this season. As I hope you will find for yourself, 101 years after the inception of the Bauhaus school in Weimar, the Bauhaus is fresh as ever and ready to wear!"
