OP/420
Our new collection is inspired by the childhood memories of sailing at the “Hungarian sea”, the Lake Balaton.
In the 1970’s the Balaton became a popular summer destination, where young Hungarians were introduced to sailing. They sailed in the legendary OPTIMIST dinghy, and the 420, a training dinghy for the bigger 470 Olympic class sailboats.
Sailing at Balaton has a long and rich history. As the lake turned into a busy tourist destination, the silhouettes of the white sails on the lake started to show up on products, and textiles in the primary colors of the era.
For the OP/420 pattern we worked with Viola Balázs, the super talented textile designer behind the VYF scarf brand, and patterns of Tomcsanyi Budapest. She found inspiration in vintage textiles, curtains, and sun chairs, to create an iconic and colorful YKRA pattern that is an ode to our own childhood sailing adventures!
We love special backpacks, so we decided to work with a traditional fabric printer to silkscreen print the whole fabric, resulting in a huge variation in the pattern.
No two products will be the same, each one will be unique and different!
