YKRA FACES: KATA BALOGH

In our recently launched series, YKRA Faces, we introduce some Budapest-based creatives, who tell us stories about their daily routines and working methods and also give us a glimpse of what they keep in their YKRA backpacks.

Our third guest is Kata Balogh, who is a lawyer, photographer and also the founder of Inspirationholic.

Please tell us what you’re up to these days!
I’ve recently completed my bar exam, so I spend half of my day as a lawyer at an international law firm, Ecovis Hungary Legal. Besides that, I started the Inspirationholic blog about 6-7 years ago as a hobby which is still running. After a couple of years I ‘stopped’ being a blogger and decided to get on the other side of the camera, invest more time in photography. From a hobby it quickly became my other profession – I specialized in content creation, so the other half of my day I produce content for clients that they can use on their own social platforms. As a lawyer, I also have the chance to get involved in exciting projects: there’s a new Lebanese restaurant in Budapest which just opened recently and an art gallery that is about to launch next year at Andrassy street. At the beginning of projects like these, I do a bit of everything, but once they are up and running, I contribute with my expertise at law.

How does a day of yours look like?
My days can be very different from each other. If it’s a ‘lawyerlike’ day I spend my day as other lawyers do – I’m attached to my laptop all day long interrupted with a few meetings and trials at the court. If I have some shots to take, then it can make my day a bit more colourful as I’m going back and forth between the office and the studio and in the evening, I have to finish the retouching work. Luckily, now that I have my bar exam and work as an individual lawyer, I can create my own schedule, that’s how I can be this flexible. The only thing which is constant in my days: gym time in the evenings.

So let’s see your backpack!
I have a limited edition LF Markey x YKRA backpack. I usually wear it on weekends when I go to the city to meet some friends and I also use it for traveling - either in Hungary or abroad.

Shopping bag: I try to be environmentally conscious, so I always have this one with me in case I have to do some groceries.
Coffee mug: As many of us, I really love coffee, so I also keep this one with me to be more sustainable when I get a coffee for takeaway.
Camera: I also keep this with me whenever I go on an excursion. I prefer carrying this smaller camera as the one I use for work purposes is much heavier.
Almond: This is my snack! My family has an almond plantation in Ábrahámhegy in the Balaton Uplands, so we have a strong attachment to almonds.
Book: I love this initiative called Poket. Unfortunately, I don’t have much time to read, so I always keep a book in my bag in case I have a couple of free minutes to get lost in a plot.
Notebook: I keep my notes from my meetings in this notebook. I’m quite old-fashioned – I prefer paper-based things, I even have a paper calendar in the office.
Earphones: Wherever I go and whatever I do, there’s always music playing. My taste is becoming more and more diverse, but as I just hit my 30s, I have to realize that with age I more and more appreciate the good old hits.
Training shoes: I always have them with me so I can go straight to the gym after work.
